To ensure all Californians have access to high-quality
health care at a reasonable price. As a not-for-profit health plan,
Blue Shield is lead by our mission and values, which encourage innovation
and enable us to be a catalyst for constructive change. Our mission
and values are embodied in our proposal to guarantee health coverage
for all Californians, the first time a major health plan has called
for universal coverage.
Code of business conduct of blue shield California
Following Our Values
Blue Shield of California and its subsidiaries are committed to do right
thing. Integrity, honesty and compliance with our policies and the law
are the guiding principles of our corporate environment.
The Code gives us a framework for doing business in the right way. It
talks about the importance of protecting confidential information, avoiding
conflicts of interest, and being vigilant about potential compliance
problems. These and other standards discussed in this Code can improve
the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization and help us fulfill
our mission to ensure that members have access to high quality care
at a reasonable price. The Code also helps us maintain something priceless
- Blue Shield's excellent reputation. The only sustainable long-term
competitive advantage a company really has is its reputation. Compliance
is part of our success. The Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program helps
everyone at Blue Shield understand and follow the Code of Business Conduct.
It does this by educating employees about the Code, monitoring for detection
of possible violations, and encouraging good faith reports of violations
without fright of retaliation. Retaliation of any kind for such reports
is strictly forbidden. At Blue Shield, it is both secure and valued
to report violations of the code. Your support for the Code of Business
Conduct will enable us to serve consumers in a professional and caring
manner.
Completing Our Mission
Our success as a company and as individual employees depends on our
ability to build unquestioning relationships with fellow employees,
customers, suppliers, business partners and regulators. Completing our
mission within the complex and dynamic health care industry requires
that we should always struggle to conduct our business activities in
an honest and fair manner. Even the meager appearance of non-compliant,
unethical or illegal acts can have harmful effects on our collective
success.Blue Shield's Code of Business Conduct offers general guidelines
to help you understand the standards and ethics that underlie Blue Shield's
business practices. The Code applies to every Blue Shield employee,
members of our Board of Directors and members of the contingent workforce,
independent consultants, temporary employees and interns. No one is
excused from its application. For Blue Shield employees, failure to
comply with these standards may subject you to punitive action, up to
and including termination. All employees should feel free to contact
any of their Compliance Resources at any time to ask queries or report
a concern. While your supervisor or manager is an important compliance
resource, you are free to choose among the various Compliance Resources
available.
